# Practise by voice with Orphi

This page shows you how to practise speaking with ChatGPT or Claude in voice mode, using your own Orphi level, lessons and cards.

> **Note:** Orphi's connection for AI assistants opens soon. This page shows how it will work.

You need Orphi connected to your assistant first, as [Connect Orphi to your AI assistant](/docs/connect) describes. The assistant then speaks at your level and brings up words from your lessons.

There are two ways to practise by voice:

1. Talk with your assistant in its own voice mode, with Orphi's data.
2. Open a voice call with Orphi itself, from a link the assistant gives you.

## Talk with your assistant's voice mode

1. Open ChatGPT Voice, or voice mode in Claude.
2. Say what you want to practise, for example "Let's practise my Chinese with Orphi" or "Quiz me on my due Orphi cards".
3. Talk. The assistant asks about one card at a time and waits for your answer.
4. At the end, the assistant saves your results in Orphi.

The assistant reads your level and a conversation guide from Orphi first. The guide tells it how long its sentences should be, how fast to go and how much of your target language to use.

Saving results changes your Orphi data, so it needs Allow changes for that assistant in Settings. Some assistants also ask you to confirm a change on the screen, even in voice mode. Look at the screen when the assistant says it is saving.

## Open a call with Orphi

When you want Orphi's own speaking practice, ask the assistant for it, for example "Open an Orphi call on my market lesson". The assistant gives you a link to `https://app.useorphi.com/call`. Open it in your browser to start the call. The link does not ring your phone.

> **Tip:** For AI agents: in voice mode, keep each turn to one or two sentences, never read lists or links aloud, and call `record_reviews` once at the end.

If something does not work, read [Fix common problems](/docs/troubleshooting).
